Barton Creek

The affluent Barton Creek community is all about exclusivity, privacy, and security. It consists of several gated subdivisions that open to extravagant mansions the Austin’s elite call home. Barton Creek, the first million-dollar neighborhood in Austin, has a population of around 3,000. It has always been considered one of the wealthiest residential areas in Austin, especially now that key employees of tech giants call Barton Creek home.

Many tech companies are headquartered in Austin. Oracle recently established its gigantic campus along the Colorado River while Apple is strengthening its foothold in the city through a billion-dollar campus. Subdivisions in Barton Creek are quite far from each other and a private vehicle is necessary to get around. Most likely, you will also need your own vehicle to go to work in the downtown. 

Barton Creek is the first upscale community in Austin to have estates that are valued at $1 million. From then until now, Barton Creek remains one of the most sought-after neighborhoods in Austin, thanks to its breathtaking views of the Texas Hill Country. 

Majority of the estates in Barton Creek were constructed in the 1980s and 1990s. Each home has a different charm, but all share one distinct feature — Barton Creek homes are lavishly large. From Tuscan-inspired mansions to grandiose garden homes, Barton Creek estates are for those who need copious amounts of space for a home that doubles as a getaway.

The lots are expansive and a number of homes are tucked away from the entrance. Foliage are strategically placed to shade the homes not only from excessive sunlight but also from prying eyes.

There are two award-winning private schools in Barton Creek alone: St. Michael’s Catholic Academy and St. Gabriel’s Catholic School. St. Michael’s Catholic Academy is for students grades 9 to 12 while St. Gabriel’s Catholic School is for students from pre-K to 8th grade. 

A part of Barton Creek is within the Eanes Independent School District. Homeowners in the area send their kids to Barton Creek Elementary School, Westridge Middle School, and Westlake High School. 

Meanwhile, some parts of Barton Creek are within the Austin Independent School District. Students go to school at Oak Hill Elementary School, O’Henry Middle School, and Austin High School.

Residents can go to Barton Creek Square for shopping, dining, and entertainment. It is the city’s largest indoor shopping center, with over 180 specialty stores and dining spots. Barton Creek Square is located at the intersection of Capital of Texas Highway and Mopac.

Inside the neighborhood lies Barton Creek Country Club and Omni Resort. Depending on the subdivision you are living, you are automatically given a Property Owners Social Membership as soon as you move into Barton Creek. This membership type grants you access to the pool, dining spots, and events within the country club.

Basic sport membership and full golf plans are also available at the country club. As a member, you will have access to its tennis courts, private heated pool, and group fitness classes. On top of that, you will have easy access to the Fazio Foothills, Fazio Canyons, Crenshaw Cliffside, and Palmer Lakeside.

Another outdoor attraction in Barton Creek is the Barton Creek Greenbelt. It features 12 miles of trails and offers activities such as hiking, biking, rock climbing, bouldering, and swimming.
